As part of the World Youth Academy’s International Security Policy Summit that took place in Vienna from 07.11. to 09.11.2019, Shabka held a workshop on EU security policy. The workshop “From vision to action in security policy making” aimed at enabling critical thinking in today’s policy-making while highlighting the difficulties that come with it.
The workshop was held by Shabka’s Co-Director Lukas Wank and focused on the developments in the EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy over the last years, its critical implications and challenges ahead. A short interactive role play based on a Western Balkans scenario provided an opportunity for the workshop’s participants to get a feeling of what policy making in/for a specific regions actually means and what its implications for security providers and consumers as well as policy makers can look like.
The Security Policy Summit is particularly designed for a small group of young professionals with the aim of providing them an immersive and comprehensive introduction to the mechanisms, challenges, and strategies of the most influential international organizations. Thanks to the network of the World Youth Academy, participants master classes with the most important policy-makers, analysts, and practitioners in the world. In addition, they also have the opportunity to learn more about their operations and work on the field.
