“An idea whose time has come cannot be stopped by an army or any government” Victor Hugo, 1802 –1885
In a world of unequal distributions of power between people and institutions we have reached a climax of conflict converging in the Middle East; particularily in one of the most holiest of places which humanity has ever known, but where to this day peace remains elusive – the mystic city of Jerusalem .
Today, more than ever, we have to understand that humanity is much more important than just politics. The importance of belonging to humankind takes precedence over all the marks of distinction that may separate one person from another. The thing that matters most is not that we have any particular cultural or national identity, or that we abide by any particular religious or philosophical conviction, but that we share with all humanity the highest values of the human race: love, understanding and compassion.
We from the BTB Movement believe that if we continue to rely on our politicians to bring us peace, we might have to wait forever. From history we have learned that the ruling elite regard their own interests as the highest priority, or at least the interests of their own nations rather than the citizens of the world. Therfore, we, the initiators of the BTB Movement have formed our own political party to bring peace to Jerusalem. All the citizens of the world are inivited to join us!
To those who are inclined to put peace in this region off as a naive and sentimental day dream, we wish to remind those fellow global citizens that every good deed starts first with an idea. Throughout history, no invention, scientific discovery or political reform (e.g the womens liberation movement) was achieved without a pre-conceived idea first. Only after an idea is envisioned, is it possible to manifest it. On that note we will gather on the 7th of July 2014, 7 a.m, from both sides of the wall of Jerusalem, to break the mental and physical barriers in Israel and Palestine.
The reason why Palestinan People want to enter Jerusalem vary. The Palestinian Youth might just want to do some clubbbing and meet like minded people in Jerusalem or Telaviv; others might want to go Jerusalem for religious reasons or to meet family. Therfore the Palestinian People in the West Bank have our fullest support in dissloving the sepparation barrier which prevents them from entering Jerusalem.
We do wish to emphasize that we do not sympathize less with the Israeli People than the Palestinian People. However, by that we are also not saying that we agree with all policies implemented by the Israeli political leaders.
We recognize that the deconstruction of the separation barrier will not solve all the problems in the country. However, we do believe that this is the first step to prove to the international community that the Israeli and the Palestinian People can transform Jerusalem into a beacon of peace in the World.
